New Dreamcast Games for 2014

The release of Sturmwind in 2013 was warmly appreciated by the number of gamers who still play on their Sega Dreamcasts. A new year sees even more Dreamcast games in development.

It's heart warming to see that dedicated programmers still see it fit to create games for a platform which ceased production over a decade ago. Sure, some older consoles have also seen the odd title but the Dreamcast attracts a sustained amount of interest from gamers and coders alike.

In an age where it's relatively easy to profit from digital software distribution on more popular systems, there is something to be said about those who turn their backs on this in the name of love and passion.

The new Dreamcast releases are again all shoot 'em ups. That's not a bad thing and to be expected with the console's arcade background.

Redux: Dark Matters is a horizontal shooter which will also be released on iOS.

Redux: Dark Matters is the up and coming space shooting game with fresh scoring elements and an incredible soundtrack composed by Andre Neuman featuring legendary video game composer Chris Huelsbeck (Turrican, R-Type). Featuring HD visuals with in-space, robot blasting, shooting game action. Developed by René Hellwig from NG:DEV.TEAM (GunLord, Fast Striker, Last Hope and DUX) and programmed by KTX Software Development.

Neo XYX is a vertical shmup with 16 bit style graphics. It supports tate mode which means you can rotate your screen so that it's vertical (the right orientation for the game) and have the HUD set for it. It's also coming out for Neo-Geo!

Ghost Blade is a vertical shoot-em-up. It has 3 ships to choose from and 5 stages as well as other scoring modes. Here's a work in progress trailer:
